Myths and facts about mental illness
Commonly people think that mental illness is very
rare, not treatable, happens to bad people and caused
by evil spirits.
But mental illness affects 10-15% of general population.
It can be effectively treated with a combination
of medication and counseling. Mental illness can
affect anybody and is like any other medical illness
caused due to disturbance in the mind.
Many people think that marriage is a cure for mental
illness and mentally ill people are not able to
lead a productive life.
The facts are, marriage doesn’t cure mental
illness and majority of mentally ill people can
be effectively treated and are capable of being
productive in life.
